Backflow Preventer and RPZ Testing in the Twin Cities

Northland Mechanical tests, certifies, repairs and replaces backflow preventers and reduced pressure zone (RPZ) assemblies for commercial buildings across the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro. Most water utilities require these devices to be tested every year by a certified tester; we perform the test, file the report, and fix or replace any device that fails.

How a service call works

  1. Call 763-544-5100 or send a message with the building address and what is going on.
  2. A technician is assigned. Emergencies are dispatched around the clock; everything else is scheduled at a time that works for the building.
  3. Diagnosis and a clear scope. You get a plain explanation and a price before repair work beyond the diagnosis begins.
  4. The work, and the paperwork. Service history is kept for your building so the next call, or a maintenance program, starts from what we already know.

Frequently asked questions

How often does a backflow preventer need to be tested?

Most Minnesota water utilities require testing once a year by a certified tester, and any time the device is repaired or relocated. Your utility's notice states the deadline; we can put your devices on an annual schedule so it is never missed.

What happens if the device fails the test?

We tell you on the spot. Many failures are fixed with a rebuild kit during the same visit; devices that cannot be repaired are replaced. A passing retest is documented and filed.

Do you file the test report?

Yes. We complete the utility's test form and submit it, and give you a copy for your records.
